Treasure

She had been collecting lost little treasures near the shore when she spotted him. He had been sitting on the edge of the dock staring out into the night. His black hair was a wreck falling all in his face. His upper arm had four uniformed scratches on it and he looked ready to pass out.

She carefully swam closer to him taking in his soft brown eyes with rough dark spots underneath. She popped above the surface and gently whistled as she swam closer lolling the poor thing into a daze.

She reached up to him and he took her hand.

“You’re a very real hallucination,” He mumbled.

She grinned showing off her sharp teeth. “Yes, dear. I’d like to think I’m a nicer one as well.”

He nodded. “I just want some sleep,” He mumbled before trying to let go.

She tugged on his hand. “I have a nice place for you to sleep.” She already was thinking of a place to put him. A nice dry edge in her deep cave. maybe she could put some other gems up there with him.

He shook his head. “No, no.” He yawned. “See, you aren’t real and I’d like to go back to my very real bed.” He yawned again. “I just want sleep,” He mumbled.

She grunted. Why’d he have to be so difficult? All the humans she’d lure to eat weren’t as difficult to trick. She began to whistle again and pulled him down.

He shook his head and weakly pulled back. “You aren’t really. This isn’t happening. I’m doing this,” He mumbled. “I just need sleep.  She isn’t-” He let out a yelp as she yanked him into the cold water.

He fought for a moment before deciding it was pointless. She dragged him into the depth of the sea until his head pounded with pain and the world was slipping away. She dragged him into a dark cave with treasures lining the floor.
